This will eventually be taken down and replaced with a much, much better photo as soon as I can get this shield in the hands of someone with a real camera and knows how to take photos. This is a project I've been working on for... yanno, I'm gonna plead the 5th on that one. I should have had it done a lot sooner but I procrastinated like hell. It's a shield a local knight in the SCA commissioned. The front is his heraldry, which you'll see later when I have good photography, and the back is miniatures of Saint Hubert and the 14 holy helpers. I had a lot of fun researching the saints and how they were supposed to be painted.
Yes, this shield will actually be used in combat. He plans to use it only for very special occasions and I'm going to coat the entire thing with something to seal and protect it.
There is a meaning to their placement! Specifically "the knight's arm goes here". I actually get that question from a LOT of people who look at this shield, it's always kind of fun to answer it.
Go check it out, it is the coolest thing I've ever gotten involved in. And I'm sure we'll get photos of him in his full kit. He's got really spiffy armor and I can't wait to see him carrying this shield. Just... might take a while. It's really cold where I'm at right now and I'm a bit afraid of coating this thing when its below freezing, so I might wait until it warms up. And he's got to put the strapping on it, I think he's thinking about going full period materials on that, so that'll take a while too.
Also is there a meaning to the way Saint Hubert and his 14 helpers are placed on the shield? (Sorry know nothing about heraldry)
